1/10/2024 0 Comments The witcher show![]() Yennefer’s friend and fellow timeless sorceress Triss Merigold (Anna Shaffer), who helps Geralt with Princess Adda the striga and who plays a larger role in the video games, is said to be younger than Yennefer. Yennefer’s timeline as we watch it develop on the show is the oldest one, beginning at the earliest date. ![]() In book/video game lore, however, she mentions being 94 and is usually considered to be a few years older than Geralt. But in the “present day,” Yennefer is 71 on the show. Though we first see Chalotra playing Yennefer in her early teenage years, after Yennefer’s ritual, she appears to be Chalotra’s age-23-for the rest of the series. For Schmidt Hissrich, Geralt’s advanced age is a particularly interesting point at which to pick up his story, after life gets complicated “for a man who thought he’d had it all figured out,”Īctress Anya Chalotra is 23. This fits with Geralt’s age in both Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher books and the Witcher video games, where Geralt is pushing 100. Which means when his timeline finally matches up with Ciri’s at the close of the first season, he’s well into living as a centenarian. So Geralt is almost but not quite 100 when the whole Renfri/Butcher of Blaviken stuff goes down. “Then there’s the death of a character and that’s what launches him off onto his journey.” The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich explained how old Geralt is in the first episode, as IGN highlights: “Geralt is almost 100 years old when the series starts and we find him in the middle of a journey,” Hissrich said. Geralt has seen a lot, which may account for why he needs a nap. But his character, Geralt, is about a century old. As it turns out, some of our fresh-faced heroes are actually senior citizens or quite comfortably into middle age.Īctor Henry Cavill is 36. Yennefer, like most sorceresses, has undergone a beautifying ritual that freezes her looks in time. His witcher training also prolongs his lifespan. Geralt’s trials by alchemical mutation gave him his distinct white mane of hair, the variable eye-shade, and considerable bodily stamina. Magic and mutations are responsible for the youthful Tuck Everlasting appearance and longevity of several main characters, particularly Geralt and Yennefer. In The Witcher, we’re dealing with a world steeped in magic, where regular rules don’t apply. So how many candles on the cake should we be lighting for Geralt and company? Finally, there are two new villains here and none of them it's particularly menacing despite the strong efforts made to make them looks like a big threat.Netflix’s hit series The Witcher likes to play with different timelines, which can feel tricky to navigate because it seems like the characters don’t really age throughout the show. I was also surprise to see that the other Witchers are just regular soldiers? I thought that becoming a Witcher changes you into a powerful monster killing machine with very few emotions but here they are just your typical secondary soldier characters. Ciri started well as a girl wanting to become a Witcher but her development really speeds up toward the end just adding new layers to what she could become and it was too much, I lost interest. Yennefer feels useless this season, she's just there to witness and to assist. The Witcher's character becomes more interesting with the main storyline resolving around his relation with Ciri but that's it. This weird pace is also flagrant by how fast everyone seems to travel between what seems opposing parts of a continent. Despite the season taking its time, it still feels like that important parts were not developed enough. This time I didn't read the books that the second season adapts and it was pretty confusing, things happen without proper introductions, character seems to act randomly. I've read the first two books which the first season covered, so he was easy for me to understand the storyline. It's still unpredictable with few twists but using recurring fantasy elements tone down the originality the show had in its first season. With a bigger focus on elves, hellish portals, child with secret powers and dragon-like monster, the show lost a little of what made it above the typical fantasy show.
