1/7/2024 0 Comments Origin brown novel![]() This UNESCO site was an apartment building commissioned by the Milà family, who lived in the main floor (third floor for Americans: in Spain buildings have a street level or planta baja, a mezzanine or entresuelo, then the main floor or principal, and only then we start counting floors – what means our first floor is a 4th for Americans!). The Gaudi building chosen to be Edmond Kirsch’s home is a favorite of mine. Maybe calling it poetry was just a reference to the beauty of the sentence? It’s not a clear prophecy either… or could it be? I have to say I would have loved it to be the password but… it wasn’t. So when I saw it reproduced in chapter 52 I thought “Bingo!” after confirming in English it’s exactly 47 words if we include the spaces. Ok, I know, it was meant to be a line of a poem and the Gaudi quote that immediately came to my mind is NOT from a poem, even if it’s totally related to the title of the book: Origin. And let’s start with the chore of the story: the 47 character sentence was one of my big disappointments. Anyway, it’s a fun book! ( TIP: you can get it on Amazon and Itunes).Īnd so from here on – SPOILER ALERT – I’ll be discussing what’s real and what’s fiction in Dan Brown’s book. However the Gaudi’s sites are just used as a unique landscape for all the intrigue that happens in the book, and the author doesn’t dig much into the architect’s philosophy, engineering or creations (although you can feel how much he praises him). So what better than discussing books today? And did you know Origin by Dan Brown takes place in Barcelona? Or should I say for the most part, as it also takes you to the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao (Basque Country) and some royal sites in Madrid.īut its cover depicting the Sagrada Familia spiral stairs, made me think it was going to be much more focused in Gaudi, the famed Barcelona architect, than it really is (and yes, because I’m a private guide and I wanted it to be about Gaudi). Afterward he met with members of the audience and signed copies of his books.Next Monday it’s the International Day of Books – St. It was a rare chance to hear from the 47-year-old, who seldom makes public appearances while writing.īrown closed the evening by playing “Happy Birthday” to his mother on the piano while the audience sang. He posed the question to the crowd, “How do we understand the story of Adam and Eve in the face of modern evolutionary knowledge?”īrown cautioned the audience that both science and religion are necessary to understand the big questions that face all major faiths, namely: “Where did we come from? Why are we here? What happens when we die?”īrown said he knew that “The Da Vinci Code” contained some controversial ideas, but never expected the firestorm that followed the novel and the movie. He said the priest replied, “Nice boys don’t ask questions like that.” He told the crowd that one day, at age 13, he asked a priest how to go about reconciling those differences. ![]() He believed both his mother’s religion and his father’s science, but became confused when the two conflicted. “I owe everything to my parents,” said Brown, whose father was a math teacher and mother was a church organist and piano teacher.īrown says he was encouraged to ask questions at home as a child. “My publisher wants good books, not quick ones,” he said.īrown began the session by introducing his parents and telling the crowd his mother Constance’s birthday was Saturday. The author said he felt no pressure to complete the novel soon. “The novel will be set in Europe, in the most fascinating place I’ve ever been,” he said.Īsked when the new book will be released, he said only “It’ll be done when it’s done.” In addition to “The Da Vinci Code,” Langdon’s appeared in “Angels and Demons” and “The Lost Symbol.”īrown was witty throughout the session in the late 19th century brick theater, and set the tone of the evening with several personal anecdotes from his childhood, which influenced his thoughts on the tense coexistence of science and religion.ĭespite persistent questioning from his fans and the media, Brown was tight-lipped about his next novel.īrown said it took a year and a half to research and that he is “well into the process of writing it.” “The Da Vinci Code” author, who grew up in New Hampshire, spoke at a benefit for The Music Hall’s “Writers on a New England Stage” series in Portsmouth.īrown is working on a new book that again features Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon as protagonist. Best-selling author Dan Brown made a rare public appearance in New Hampshire onįriday, saying very little about his next novel other than he’s well into the writing process.
